Boy with cerebral palsy awarded {pound}21m settlement from NHS for birth inȷuries

A boy with severe cerebral palsy as a result of oxygen deprivation at birth has won a £21m settlement from the NHS trust responsible for his mother’s obstetric care.Born in 2015 at a hospital in London, the boy has a profound learning disability and is unable to sit, stand, walk unaided, or speak.Because his disabilities put him at high risk of suffering a life threatening complication requiring immediate medical intervention, he needs two people caring for him around the clock. As well as a lump sum of £7m, the settlement includes payments of £700 000 a year for the rest of his life. If he lives as long as his projected life expectancy, the total will reach more than £21m.The boy has not been identified but has been given the initials NKX to protect his and his family’s privacy.
