Say hello to patients: patients can encourage introductions

Launer suggests clinicians “cultivate a routine of looking directly at every patient they pass” and “at least nod politely to acknowledge their existence.”1If a doctor doesn’t introduce themself, however, patients can encourage them. If a doctor fails to introduce themself when I enter a consulting room as or with a patient, I say hello and ask their name. It always seems to generate a receptive atmosphere.
