Gaza: Israel’s hospital evacuation orders are “death sentence for the sick,” says WHO

The World Health Organization has condemned Israel’s repeated orders to evacuate 22 hospitals in northern Gaza that are treating more than 2000 inpatients, including newborn babies in incubators and critically ill patients on life support.1In a statement issued on 14 October WHO labelled the call a “death sentence for the sick and injured” and said Israel must immediately reverse the order and ensure that health facilities, health workers, patients, and civilians are not targeted, as required by international law.Israel has continued to drop thousands of bombs on besieged Gaza, in what the UN and humanitarian organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières have labelled “collective punishment” of the Palestinian people.2 Gaza has a population of 2.3 million, half of whom are children.
