NHS announces new specialist obesity clinics for children

The NHS has announced an expansion of specialist support for young people who are severely obese, with 10 new clinics set to open in England.The move, which will increase the total number of NHS specialist obesity clinics to 30, is the latest measure designed to tackle the soaring childhood obesity crisis in England. Latest figures show that hospital admissions of obese under 17 year olds has nearly tripled in a decade from 3370 in 2011-12 to 9431 in 2021-22.NHS England said that the expansion, backed by £18m of funding over the next two years, will give an additional 3000 obese children and young adults aged 2-18 access to specialist NHS doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and dietitians.
