Charles Morgan Gwynn

bmj;381/may09_11/p998/FAF1faBorn in Gorseinon, south Wales, Charles Morgan Gwynn attended Gowerton Grammar, where he excelled at both the clarinet and rugby. He studied medicine at the University of Birmingham, where he captained the medics rugby team. After graduation and house jobs, he married and moved to Swindon, beginning a career in paediatrics.He returned to the Midlands as a senior registrar before becoming a GP principal. He combined working as a GP with an NHS clinic specialising in the causes and treatment of childhood asthma and allergies and a career in the Territorial Army, rising to the rank of colonel and being awarded the Territorial Decoration. Later in life he became commander of St John Ambulance, West Midlands, and received the Order of St John.His medical research and military service took him all over the world to places such as Russia, Finland, India, Nepal, Hong Kong, Belize, Germany and Belgium.
