BMA pushes for Chinese Medical Association to condemn medical abuse of Uyghurs

The World Medical Association (WMA) has called for the Chinese Medical Association to recognise and denounce the medical involvement in severe human rights violations against Uyghur people and other minorities in China, in a motion passed by council at a meeting in Nairobi late last month.The motion will now be sent to the WMA’s general assembly in Kigali, Rwanda, for adoption in October.Last August, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights published a report warning that large numbers of people from Uyghur and other predominantly Muslim communities in Xinjiang, China, had been detained and abused.
