Preterm birth and obstructive airway disease in adult lifeA record linkage study from Finland and Norway suggests that preterm birth should be recognised as a strong risk factor for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adult life. Rates of obstructive airway disease were three times higher in those born before 31 completed weeks of gestation when compared with those born at term.
