7 Weeks Pregnant

At this time that you have settled into pregnancy, you may be wondering when you might start to show. It begins with a bit of bloating at this stage, and you will notice an immense difference in your stomach between when you first wake up versus when you go to sleep. This difference is because progesterone causes your muscle tissue to relax, which slows your digestion, so the nutrients in your food have more time to enter your bloodstream and reach your baby.

Moreover, did you know that the mucous plug in the cervix starts to develop by the end of this week? The mucous plug has the essential function of sealing the opening of the uterus to prevent bacteria from entering.

Your embryo is now about 1cm long from head to tail, with internal organs starting to take shape, including their brain, stomach, kidneys, bowel and lungs. While your baby is still really tiny, they are now 10,000 times bigger than at conception. By now, your baby has an established heartbeat, which beats at 150-180 beats per minute. Also, arm and leg buds start to form.

What You May Feel

Hormonal changes make it common to feel very tired at this stage of pregnancy. Also, it’s natural to experience nausea and moodiness due to the hormonal and physical changes in your body; nausea often peaks around this time. Additionally, you may also experience sore breasts, which is an early sign of pregnancy for some, as the increase in oestrogen levels cause the milk ducts and glands to swell.

Tips for when you are 7 Weeks Pregnant

While you aren’t showing just yet, it is an excellent time to look through your wardrobe and start preparing for maternity outfits. Think about what season you will be in during your third trimester and start looking around for suitable clothing. Also, if your nausea has stepped up, keep eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.
