STAT+: Hospitals’ push to boost Medicare pay through December faces uncertain fate in the Senate

WASHINGTON — Hospitals successfully lobbied to get a House vote next week to prolong a temporary boost in Medicare payments through December, though the measure’s fate in the Senate is unclear.

Congress voted last year to increase health care providers’ Medicare payments by 2% to help cushion their bottom lines during the Covid-19 pandemic, but that relief is set to expire at the end of March. Hospitals have been aggressively lobbying for an extension. The House is expected to vote next week to extend the relief through December 31, according to a scheduling email from Democratic leadership and bill text.
