STAT Plus: Pharmalittle: Operation Warp Speed is more Army than science; J&J’s Covid-19 vaccine moves forward
Good morning, one and all. Damian Garde here, filling in for Ed Silverman at the start of another working week, with the familiar crush of deadlines, appointments, and meetings, visual and otherwise. Operation Warp Speed, the federal initiative to accelerate treatments and vaccines for Covid-19, looks a lot more like a military operation than a science project, according to STAT, which obtained the project’s organizational chart. Roughly 60 military officials — including at least four generals — are involved in the leadership of Operation Warp Speed, many of whom have never worked in health care or vaccine development. Just 29 of the roughly 90 leaders on the chart aren’t employed by the Department of Defense.
