As far right calls for China travel ban, health experts warn coronavirus response would suffer
A handful of conservative lawmakers and far-right supporters of President Trump are calling on the U.S. government to ban travel from mainland China — a move that public health experts warn would likely do more harm than good in the response to a rapidly accelerating outbreak of a novel coronavirus that originated in the country.
Already, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) has called for a ban on all commercial flights from China, and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) said the government should consider “implementing a temporary travel ban on travelers from China until the threat is resolved.”
