Healthy Foods = Healthy Planet
Healthier, more nutritious foods are better for the planet, according to UK researchers. More than 57,000 food products made up of multiple ingredients sold in supermarkets in the UK and Ireland were rated with an environmental impact score that considered several factors, such as greenhouse gas emissions and land use. Foods with the lowest impact tended to be plant-based (breads, fruits, vegetables, grains), while those containing lamb and beef had the highest impact. Generally, healthier foods tended to have the lowest environmental impact, with the exception of nuts and seafood, which are nutritious but have relatively high environmental impacts.
