Animal Foods are Vital Nutrient Sources
Meat, eggs, and milk are vital nutrient sources of nutrients, such as proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, that are not easily found in plant-based foods, says a new report from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Based on more than 500 scientific papers and 240 policy documents, the study called these nutrients critical during life stages such as pregnancy and lactation, childhood, adolescence, and older age. Eating any amount of processed red meats (bacon, deli meats) can increase risk of death and disease, eating moderate amounts of unprocessed red meat carries minimal risk, and risk from milk, eggs, and poultry is inconclusive.
