Ildikō Schuller

bmj;378/aug05_10/o1953/FAF1faIldikō Schuller was born to an English mother and a Hungarian refugee father and displayed her inherited imagination, passion, and humility from an early age. She qualified from the (then) London Hospital in 1984 and entered postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology, during which she found herself intuitively drawn to the pragmatic and ethical challenges of care for the sickest of children. She started paediatric training in 1988 and in 1997 became a consultant paediatrician interested in paediatric oncology at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup (QMS). Service reorganisations took her via various hospitals to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich in 2012, where she spent the rest of her career. There, her deep commitment to ethical practice, which she expected from all of her colleagues, led to her first masters in medical law and ethics.
