David Anthony Young

bmj;383/oct24_10/p2443/FAF1faDavid Anthony Young was born in Bedford and moved to London, where he met his future wife, Cynthia, in 1954 while he was training at the Middlesex Hospital. He qualified in 1957 and went on to specialise in paediatrics and general anaesthesia. After four years with the British Army of the Rhine in Germany, he worked in Portsmouth Hospital, then Charing Cross Hospital, where he qualified as a fellow of the Faculty of Anaesthetics and became a consultant. He moved to Farnborough Area Health Authority, which included Sydenham Children’s, Bromley, Beckenham, and Farnborough hospitals, where he served a term as medical director. He also undertook some private practice. In retirement David and Cynthia moved to Cornwall and they both completed a BA (Hons) in humanities and music.
