As a young boy he migrated with his family to his ancestral home of Lahore in Pakistan, where he attended St Anthony’s High School, a prestigious institution that counted two of Pakistan’s former prime ministers among its alumni. He was a distinguished student and returned to England for his sixth form years before reading medicine at St John’s College, Cambridge.Mobi had a long held interest in cardiothoracic surgery from his early medical school days, which he nurtured through an encyclopaedic knowledge of the specialty. On graduating in 1991, he undertook junior clinical and research posts in the specialty in Southampton, Glasgow, and Newcastle before settling in the Yorkshire Deanery for his formative cardiothoracic training.
