Hull Royal Infirmary’s maternity services are not safe or well led, says regulator
Maternity services at Hull Royal Infirmary require urgent improvements, the health and care regulator has said after finding that wards and clinics were badly managed, communication between staff was poor, and concerns raised by staff often went ignored, leading to unsafe care.The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that the hospital’s antenatal day unit and triage area was chaotic and had an ineffective appointment system that was not adequately supervised, leaving people waiting for long periods to be seen without any offers of food or drink.1Inspections in March and April also revealed that antenatal wards were so poorly equipped that women and their birthing partners often had no bed or comfortable area to wait in.
