Ranjit Singh Sumra

bmj;382/aug04_7/p1790/FAF1faRanjit Singh Sumra was born in Kanpur, India. After graduating he trained in neurology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He married Satnam, his junior at his medical college, in 1969.After a stint of jobs in India and abroad (including Iran and Germany) the family came to the UK in 1978. Satnam worked as a GP while Ranjit further specialised in neurophysiology. He provided neurophysiological services at the Royal Liverpool Hospital and Tameside General Hospital as well as in the private sector.Besides medicine Ranjit dedicated his time to family and friends and the communities in the north west. He had immense love for Hindi poetry and literature. He sponsored and hosted several renowned poets and artists visiting the UK from India. He formed an association, AHINSAM, that for a time remained active in promoting languages and arts.He developed neuroglioma early in 2023. He responded well…
