Saeed Fatima Abbas

bmj;382/aug04_3/p1787/FAF1faHaving witnessed the Partition of India and immense social upheaval in her early years, Saeed Fatima Naqvi came to medicine with great courage and an unwavering ambition after help others. She qualified as a doctor from Dow Medical College, Karachi, after her initial bachelors degree in botany and zoology.In 1965 she married Syed Kaukab Abbas, a fellow Dow Medical alumnus and at the time a trainee in orthopaedic surgery in England. The two initially settled in Darlington, both working at Darlington Memorial Hospital, before moving around and practising in the north of England. During these years, Saeed Fatima trained in anaesthesia and obstetrics and gynaecology before becoming a GP.The couple ultimately settled in Bradford in the 1970s.
