Build healthy habits to counteract burnout

As a public health student, I’ve spent a lot of time speaking about healthcare worker burnout, especially from the covid-19 pandemic. After reading this article,1 I spoke to one of my peers who began working as a nurse in the emergency department during 2020 to learn more.She mentioned that burnout was never discussed in nursing school. During her studies, she was taught that to take care of patients she needed to be mentally and physically strong, but did not learn about the possibility of feeling burnt out or how to deal with those feelings.Multiple schools in the United States now run wellness programmes alongside medical school courses. For instance, at Stanford, the WellMD programme works with students and healthcare professionals to further understand causes of burnout and how to prevent it.
