Herbert Christopher Dharmasiri
bmj;382/jul28_9/p1742/FAF1faChristopher Dharmasiri was one of seven siblings growing up in rural Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, and was notably the first student from his school, St Anne’s College, to attend medical school. He graduated from the prestigious Colombo Medical Faculty in 1958 and went on to complete his internship at Kandy General Hospital before becoming a district medical officer serving Divulapitiya and Rattota. He subsequently moved to Galle and became the first medical officer of the Galle Cooperative Hospital. He married Fleenie De Silva in 1960, and together they moved to the UK in 1975 with their young children to start a new chapter. After short spells at Hackney and St Albans hospitals, he became a GP in 1977 and moved to south Wales, where he spent the rest of his distinguished career.
