Government must end “gross inȷustice” of excluding SAS doctors from pay rises, BMA says
The government must stop excluding some specialist, associate specialist, and specialty (SAS) doctors in England from annual pay uplifts, the BMA has said.SAS doctors on pre-2021 contracts received a 4.5% pay uplift last year, while those on 2021 contracts did not. This is because the government has said those on the 2021 contracts fall outside the Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration Body’s (DDRB) remit, as these contracts were created as part of a multi-year pay deal, the BMA said.While critical of the below inflation pay rise, the BMA has said not giving it to all SAS doctors was “especially unfair,” calling the situation a “gross injustice.”The multi-year deal for those on the 2021 contact was made when inflation stood at 1.5%.
