Government agrees to better, more accessible workforce planning
Calls for the government to produce better, clearer, and independently audited NHS and social care workforce plans have been accepted, although no date has yet been set for when they will be published.In its official response1 to a report from MPs on the cross party parliamentary health and social care committee about workforce, the government said it agreed with the perceived need for objective, visible, and independently assessed reports on workforce projections.The committee’s report2 was published in July last year alongside an associated report3 by the committee’s independent expert panel that rated overall government progress on key commitments on workforce as “inadequate.”They concluded that the NHS and social care were facing “the greatest workforce crisis in their history”4 and that the lack of a credible government strategy posed a serious risk to staff and patient safety for routine and emergency care.The committee’s call for the government to publish “objective, transparent,…
