GMC to appoint personalised contacts for doctors under investigation

The GMC will make initial contact with a doctor by phone if they need to investigate a concern, the regulator has announced, as part of its attempts to reduce stress on doctors who have complaints made against them.A pilot carried out earlier this year found that doctors felt more supported when initial phone calls were made, said the GMC.After an email to arrange a phone call, the person dealing with the investigation will introduce themselves as the doctor’s contact, explain what the immediate next steps will be, and signpost them to relevant support services.
