Women need high quality, independent information about the menopause

From broadsheet newspapers to the Today programme, there was fulsome coverage of the recent report from the UK government’s All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on menopause.1Menopause has gone from the margins of media coverage into the bright primetime lights; the taboo busting has saturated television and resulted in considerable increases in prescriptions for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the UK. In 2021-22, 7.80 million items for HRT were prescribed in England—a 35% increase compared with 2020-21.2 Many commentators would say that this is a good thing and a positive development; as a woman of a certain age, shouldn’t I be grateful?
