Australian organisation offering independent advice on medicines is axed after funding is cut
NPS MedicineWise, an Australian organisation offering independent and evidence based information on medicines, is to close at the end of 2022 after the federal government decided to cut its funding.For 24 years NPS MedicineWise has provided education and resources on the best use of medicines and drug safety to GPs, allied health professionals, and the general public in Australia.“We believe it will prove to be a poor decision and will make the safe and wise use of medicines in Australia much harder to achieve,” said Andrew Knight, chair of the NPS MedicineWise board, in a media statement.1The organisation had its funding cut in the March 2022 budget as part of a redesign of the Quality Use of Therapeutics, Diagnostics and Pathology programme.
