Elizabeth Alin Letsky
Elizabeth Alin Letsky (“Liz”) was educated at the North London Collegiate School, where she showed aptitude in both arts and sciences, but chose to read medicine. She was able to use her beautiful voice and musical knowledge to take part in many cultural activities throughout her life. Liz graduated from Durham University and did house jobs in obstetrics and paediatrics at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. She then moved to London, working first at St Mary’s and St Charles’s hospitals and subsequently was appointed registrar at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she worked with children who had from thalassaemia and haemophilia. In 1967 Liz was appointed to the Veterans Hospital in San Francisco to do research. She also took this opportunity to sing in the chorus of San Francisco Opera.
