The cost of living crisis in the United Kingdom is affecting fifth and sixth year medical students badly. The maximum loan covers around six months of these students’ living expenses. The picture is bleak for those who sit on middle incomes, with students being provided with only three months of living costs (£2975).12In addition to sitting final examinations, many of these students move to other parts of the country for their foundation year training. They often go deep into their overdrafts or ask their parents for money because of lack of funds.
