bmj;378/aug12_10/o1984/FAF1faAfter completing his house officer posts in Birmingham, Albert Kenneth Woodward (“Ken” joined the Royal Air Force—to see the world—and was posted to Shropshire and Wales, during which time he didn’t take a single flight. In 1962 he joined an established general practice in Codsall. There he undertook additional training in obstetrics, developed interests in obstetrics and diabetes, and provided a vasectomy service. He became senior partner in 1987, and in 1989 led the design of new practice premises. As a traditional GP living and working in the same village he was an integral part of the community until he reluctantly retired in 1997.He had a wide range of other interests, and chaired the village’s civic society. He was Codsall Arts Festival’s treasurer for many years; he had a love of theatre, classical music, light opera, and singing.
