The UK must do better to improve its “inconsistent and unclear” science policy, say members of the House of Lords, who fear that the country’s reputation as a leader in science could be slipping thanks to neglect of this area of policy.A report from the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee published on 4 August said it was essential that the government spell out a clear, consistent, and measurable science and technology policy so as to unlock economic growth and improve the UK’s public services.1The committee’s inquiry set out to examine the government’s plans to deliver a UK science and technology strategy and for the UK to become a “science and tech superpower” by 2030.
