NHS to rollout continuous glucose monitors for all patients with type 1 diabetes
All patients with type 1 diabetes in England will now be eligible for continuous glucose monitors, the NHS has announced.NHS England said it had secured a deal with the manufacturer Dexcom to make continuous glucose monitors available on prescription at a similar price to flash monitor counterparts.The devices, called Dexcom ONE Real Time-Continuous Glucose Monitoring, can be worn on the arm for up to 10 days. They use a sensor no larger than a bottle cap to measure glucose levels from under the skin, sending information to a mobile app for patients to track without having to scan or take a finger prick test.The widening of access comes after the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommended1 earlier this year that everyone with type 1 diabetes in England should be offered some form of continuous glucose monitoring technology.
