Manak Chand

bmj;386/aug08_15/q1735/FAF1faManak Chand studied medicine at the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi. He was a popular student, much admired for his academic excellence as well his as interest in extracurricular activities. He won many awards including athlete of the year. He graduated in 1969 and came to the UK in April 1973. Following further training in medicine, anaesthesia, and general practice he settled as a GP in London. He married Kusum in 1974 and together they led an active social life, developed a network of friends, and were supportive of community ventures.Manak was a role model to many in general practice, his family, and the wider community. He and Kusum were very proud of their two sons—Manish, now a consultant colorectal surgeon, and Milan, a consultant in emergency medicine.Manak loved travelling and enjoyed poetry, drama, and sports. He is survived by Kusum, their two sons, and four grandchildren.
