Conferences led by patients facilitate democratic decision making in healthcare

We agree that the pandemic offered no favours to patient and public involvement in healthcare and support the call to strengthen patient and public participation in policy making and research.1Although including patients at conferences is important, we also need more conferences that are actually led by patients.2Patient led conferences, unlike much of research and healthcare, give patients power and control over all aspects of the event, including resourcing and support. We were involved in a patient led conference, “PxP (For Patients, By Patients): Partnering to make research stronger,” in September 2023.23 PxP is about patient engagement in research.
