Navy surgeon suspended after operating on boy’s genitals without consent
A former naval surgeon who operated on a boy’s penis without consent while performing hernia surgery at an NHS hospital has been suspended from the UK medical register for six months.Anthony Lambert, a consultant general surgeon, acted to free preputial adhesions on a 12 year old’s penis while the boy was under general anaesthetic for an umbilical hernia repair at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth in 2016. But both the boy and his parents had previously asked him not to undertake the examination or the procedure.Lambert made only limited efforts to find the parents during the surgery, the tribunal heard, entering the waiting room but not calling their name.
