After his initial appointment as Hall tutorial fellow he went on to become lecturer and subsequently senior lecturer in surgery but his contribution to surgical training and education generally extended to a national level.Born to Kenneth and Margaret MacKay in a nursing home in the Park Circus area of Glasgow in the prewar years, Colin was subsequently evacuated along with his cousins on his mother’s side to Tighnabruich in Argyll, where he started primary school..
