John Armitage Southam

He was a registrar in surgery at Manchester Royal infirmary and a senior registrar in surgery at United Birmingham hospitals. From 1968 to 1993 he was a consultant surgeon at Epsom District Hospital. He published on inferior mesenteric ganglion, primary malignant tumours of jejunum and ileum, and benign tumours of the small intestine, among others.In retirement he pursued numerous hobbies, including bowling, travel, bridge, walking, and sudoku. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all live in various parts of the country.Sadly his wife, Audrey, died in 2018. John’s health deteriorated gradually from August 2023.John leaves his two surviving children (sadly he lost a daughter in 1999), five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
