Life expectancy fell during pandemic across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland
Life expectancy fell during 2020 to 2022 across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, largely because of the rise in mortality during the pandemic, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has reported.1The data show that across all local areas male life expectancy varied by more than a decade—from a peak of 83.7 years in Hart in north east Hampshire to 73.4 years in Blackpool (73.4 years).
