Vaccine appointments and records will be available through NHS app, says NHS England
Patients, parents, and carers will be able to book routine vaccine appointments and view vaccination records through the NHS app, NHS England has said as it unveiled a new vaccination strategy.1The new plan comes after years of decline in the uptake of routine childhood vaccinations.2 In the past year vaccination rates have fallen in almost all childhood programmes. For example, only 92.5% of children in England have had the first dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine by age 5, the lowest level since 2010-11.3In 2019 the UK lost its measles-free status, granted by the World Health Organization in 2016, after a decline in vaccine uptake led to cases rising.4The NHS app, as well as making booking and record keeping easier, will provide guidance for patients and families on what vaccinations they need, said NHS England.
