Ronald Mulroy

It was here that he met fellow medical student Julie Whittle, who was to be his wife of 59 years.He joined Chapelthorpe surgery in Wakefield in 1963 and stayed for 33 years. He combined an enquiring scientific mind with a caring attitude. He was keen on primary care based research and clinical audit, and his publications included a BMJ paper in 1973 on iatrogenic disease in general practice.He was an enthusiastic educator of current and future GPs, and was course organiser and postgraduate tutor in West Yorkshire for many years. He warned that “GPs can easily remain unconscious of their own deterioration,” and cautioned against professional isolation.He maintained contact with local hospital colleagues through sessions in the dermatology department and the younger disabled unit, which he felt gave him an invaluable insight into the lives of young…
