Infertility affects quality of life for men too
It is time to stop making assumptions about gender differences and the effects of infertility on quality of life.I refer to the article by Dyer and colleagues.1 The authors say that “infertility is defined as a disease because of its effects on quality of life, especially of women, as measured by levels of anxiety, depression, loss of self-esteem, and severe social effects.” This suggests that the effects of infertility on the male psyche, and subsequent social effects, are less than in women.Is this because research into the effects of infertility on quality of life have been under-investigated in men, or does it tell of a bias in how infertility is perceived and reported by the medical establishment?Infertility is a problem that affects people of any and all kinds.
