Satisfaction with GPs is high, but patients struggle to get appointments, survey shows
Trust and confidence in GPs remains high, but nearly a fifth of patients had a bad experience contacting their practice, the latest GP patient survey shows.1The findings highlight the scale of the challenge facing the new Labour government and came just days after the new health and social care secretary, Wes Streeting, promised to “bring back the family doctor” in order to “fix the front door of the NHS.”2Of 2.56 million surveys sent to adults registered with a general practice in England, 699 790 were returned completed between 2 January and 25 March 2024, a response rate of 27%.The questionnaire has been redeveloped so is difficult to compare with previous years, although it appeared that people’s overall satisfaction with their practice had improved slightly.3 Three quarters of respondents (73.9%) said their overall experience of their practice was good, and 92.3% said they had confidence and trust in the healthcare professional…
