Helping women prepare for menopause
Over half the world’s population will experience menopause, and most will report symptoms, such as prolonged or heavy bleeding in perimenopause and hot flushes in perimenopause, after menopause, or both. Frequent and severe symptoms can affect mood, sleep, and function at work. Despite this, there are substantial gaps in the information and support available for women and people experiencing menopause. A recent UK survey found that 60% of women over 40 felt uninformed about menopause, and nearly one third were “dreading it.”1 Yet it was only in 2020 that menopause was finally included in the UK high school curriculum, meaning that a further generation of women is likely to approach menopause uninformed and unprepared.
