Pregnant women and older adults in England and Scotland to be offered RSV vaccination
Two new vaccination programmes to protect older adults and infants in England against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are set to be rolled out from September, the government has announced.In a letter to NHS trusts, integrated care boards, and royal medical colleges, NHS England and the UK Health Security Agency said that eligible adults will be offered a single dose of the RSV vaccine on or after their 75th birthday, with the service being delivered through general practices and community pharmacies.1 A one-off catch-up campaign for those already aged 75 to 79 years old will also be carried out between 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025. From 1 September, pregnant women will be offered a single RSV vaccine dose once they reach 28 weeks’ gestation, to provide protection for their newborn babies.
