bmj;385/jun14_1/q1306/FAF1faMichael Dash, a highly respected general practitioner, died peacefully at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstable on 27 February 2024 aged 89 from a cerebral vascular event.Michael Glenmark Dash was born in Wallasey on 20 August 1934, the son of a Martins Bank manager. His teenage years were mostly spent in Cheltenham where he attended Dean Close School before studying medicine at Bristol University, graduating in 1959. His proficiency in sport was already evident at that time and he went on to captain the university’s hockey and cricket teams. Sport in its various forms turned into a lifelong passion and he acquired considerable expertise in the fields of sailing, skiing, and golf, subsequently also becoming a keen spectator.
