bmj;385/jun14_5/q1304/FAF1faMalcolm Ian Mitchell graduated from Newcastle University in 1972 where he met his wife Lynne, a nurse and later midwife.Initially working in general medicine at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the General Hospital in Newcastle, Malcolm relocated to Glasgow as a senior radiographer.In 1982 he joined Pfizer in Kent as a medical adviser, beginning his long career in pharmaceuticals. He worked for a short spell as medical director at Napp.Malcolm joined Lilly in 1987, working in clinical research at the Erl Wood facility in Surrey. He had a brief interlude at Hanover Square in London at the medical devices division from 1990 to 1993, and at Lilly Corporate Center in Indianapolis in the US from 2006 to 2010.
