Bryan Lawrence Whitty

bmj;385/jun14_2/q1310/FAF1faBryan was born on 28 March 1940 in the West End of Glasgow. He was educated at Hyndland Secondary School where he was a keen rower. He studied medicine at the University of Glasgow and graduated in July 1964, marrying Margaret in the same week. They were married for 56 years until her death in 2021. He leaves four children, seven grandchildren, and a great grandchild.Bryan worked at Ballochmyle Hospital in Ayrshire, where Margaret was a theatre nurse, and then began preparation for missionary work in Nazareth and then in Birmingham. He was later sent to Christian Hospital Chandraghona in the Chittagong hill tracts in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). There, Bryan had wide ranging clinical responsibilities but was the designated anaesthetist.
