Hospital doctors in Wales to vote on enhanced pay deal for 2023-24

The Welsh government has increased its pay offer for 2023-24 to junior doctors, consultants, and specialist, associate specialist, and specialty (SAS) doctors. If accepted individual doctors would receive additional uplifts of between 4% and 10%.1The three groups will vote on whether to accept the offers in referendums between 12 and 26 June.Junior doctors have been offered an additional 7.4%, bringing the total rise for the 2023-24 financial year to 12.4%. The rise will be backdated to April 2023.The BMA has negotiated a revised pay scale for consultants, which would provide higher career earnings, significantly better starting pay, and an additional in year pay rise of up to 10.1% for some. These uplifts will be in addition to the 5% already awarded to consultants as part of the pay review process.
