Psychiatrist who claimed {pound}1000s for shifts he didn’t work is struck off

A psychiatrist who forged a colleague’s signature on his timesheets and claimed tens of thousands of pounds in NHS pay when he was actually on leave or out of the country has been struck off the UK medical register.A medical practitioners tribunal found that between 2019 and 2021 Rajeev Reghunath dishonestly claimed pay for shifts at Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation NHS Trust, where he worked as a locum consultant psychiatrist. On some of those days he had been on annual leave, while on other days he had been on trips to Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and India. An antifraud specialist engaged by the trust traced his movements through a Home Office search engine.The events occurred during the covid-19 pandemic, when psychiatrists were often working at home through telephone and video consultations, although the tribunal had no evidence that Reghunath was authorised to carry out his work from outside…
