A distinguished virologist who was fired from Canada’s most secure government laboratory and stripped of her security clearance has been located in China, three years after disappearing from public view in the West.Xiangguo Qiu’s reappearance, working for a Chinese institute with extensive military connections, comes two weeks after documents released to Canada’s parliament showed the assessment of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) that she “intentionally transferred scientific knowledge and materials to China in order to benefit the People’s Republic of China government,” and “has engaged, may engage, or may be induced to engage in activities that constitute a threat to the security of Canada.”1Qiu held a senior post at Winnipeg’s National Microbiology Laboratory, Canada’s only level four laboratory, designed to hold the most dangerous pathogens.
