Sixty GP surgeries set to transfer to new private provider

The private healthcare provider HCRG Care Group (formerly known as Virgin Care) has agreed a deal to acquire fellow provider Operose Health and its chain of nearly 60 NHS general practices.In September it emerged that the US health insurer Centene was seeking to sell its network of NHS GP clinics,1 just two years after it entered the NHS primary care market and became one of its largest providers when its UK subsidiary Operose Health acquired AT Medics.2In a statement a spokesperson for HCRG Care Group, which rebranded from Virgin Care in 2021,3 said, “We have agreed with Centene a proposal to transfer ownership of Operose Health and AT Medics to our UK based health and care organisation.“Our agreement specifically acknowledges the next step as a formal change of control process by local NHS commissioning organisations, and we have been, and will continue to, engage constructively with this formal process to…
